In collaboration with our partners at NQAPIA and NCAPA, NEA is proud to host the webinar: Living Intersectionally: Creating Belonging for the AAPI + LGBTQ+ community from 7-8 PM ET

Moderator: Hilario Benzon, NEA Associate Director, Human and Civil Rights Department

Panelists: 

  • Sam Long, NEA Science teacher in Denver, Colorado and recipient of the NEA HCR 2021Virginia Uribe Memorial Award

  • Nicholas Turton, The Trevor Project (speak on AAPI LGBTQ youth and mental health)

  • Inoke Tonga, activist, former volleyball coach/teacher who was fired for being 'out' in Utah

  • Josef Canaria, Board member, Act to Change, speaking on anti-bullying support for API youth

With NEA’s Associate Director of the Human and Civil Rights Department Hilario Benzon moderating, participants will hear from panelists to learn about creating spaces of belonging for the AAPI + LGBTQ+ community. Panelists include NEA HCR 2021 Virginia Uribe Memorial Award winner Sam Long, Nicholas Turton from The Trevor Project to speak on AAPI LGBTQ youth and mental health, Inoke Tonga, an activist and former volleyball coach/teacher who was fired for being 'out' in Utah, and Josef Canaria, Act to Change board member, speaking on anti-bullying support for API youth.
