Censorship Impact Questionnaire

We want to hear how you've been impacted by censorship budget provisos.
banned books PEN America
Fiction novels and non-fiction books that deal explicitly with LGBTQ+ topics and/or feature protagonists of color have been major targets in the recent wave of book bans, according to PEN America.

Since 2021, the South Carolina budget has included provisos that prohibit school districts from using state funds to purchase textbooks or carry out lesson plans that "serve to inculcate" certain prohibited concepts. These provisos have been used to censor educators and stop them from teaching about issues related to race and gender in the United States.

The SCEA wants to learn how the state budget provisos and related district policies are impacting members - so we want to hear from you.

If you have been impacted by the censorship budget provisos, please click the link below and fill out our brief questionnaire.

Your responses are confidential and will not be publicly shared without your express permission.
