The South Carolina Education Association Elects New Leadership Team

The South Carolina Education Association (The SCEA) announces the results of its recent statewide elections, introducing a dynamic team of leaders committed to advancing public education and supporting educators and students across the state.

Columbia, SC – The South Carolina Education Association (The SCEA) announces the results of its recent statewide elections, introducing a dynamic team of leaders committed to advancing public education and supporting educators and students across the state.

Newly Elected Officers:

President: Dena Renee Crews

With 24 years of experience in education, Ms. Crews specializes in Elementary Education and currently serves as a literacy coach at North Vista Elementary in Florence 1. A passionate advocate for educators, she previously held the role of Vice President for The SCEA. “The strength of The SCEA lies in the hearts of our locals and the potential of each member to be a leader,” Crews stated.

Vice President: Dr. Karen Greene

A high school chemistry teacher from Berkeley County with over 25 years of teaching experience, Dr. Greene currently teaches at Stratford High School. As the current Secretary-Treasurer for The SCEA, she aims to pursue new growth opportunities to increase membership and promote public education.

Secretary-Treasurer: Roselyn Green

From Florence, Ms. Green began her career as an Education Support Professional before becoming certified in Special Education. With prior experience as a board member of The SCEA and significant expertise in budgeting and tax preparation, she brings a wealth of knowledge to her new role.

Dr. Kayla Carter-Jackson of Beaufort County Education Association, UniDistrict 7

These officials exemplify experience and a shared commitment to enhancing the quality of education for all students in South Carolina. Their collective expertise will be instrumental in addressing current and arising challenges within the education profession while advocating for policies that benefit students and educators alike.

Current President of The SCEA, Sherry East, who is term-limited and thus outgoing, expressed confidence in the new leadership team: “I am proud of the direction where The SCEA is going. These elected officers will fiercely promote and protect our profession which educates over 90% of South Carolina’s children.”

The newly elected officials will assume their roles on July 15, with an official inauguration ceremony scheduled for Saturday, June 6, at The SCEA Headquarters, 2999 Sunset Boulevard. West Columbia, South Carolina.
