The SCEA received over 140 submissions of original artwork from student artists across the state, all reflecting the theme “From the Mountains to the Sea, Read with Me.”

“Allie’s artwork is a beautiful depiction of literacy and the rich history and culture of the Palmetto state,” said The SCEA President Sherry East. “The SCEA is honored to award Allie with Best in Show,”

Allie is a student of high school teacher Dawn Weathersbee. The SCEA’s Annual Read Across South Carolina Art Contest promotes literacy and art across South Carolina and brings recognition to individual students, their teachers, and schools.

“I couldn't be prouder of Allie! She's a dedicated student who has a heart of gold. I'm glad she has the opportunity to share her gift for art through The SCEA,” said Dawn Weathersbee.

The Read Across South Carolina Art Contest is part of The SCEA and National Education Association’s (NEA) Read Across America year-round effort to connect students with diverse books and the joys of reading beyond a single-day event.

“On NEA’s Read Across America Day, we thank the students, parents, educators, caregivers, librarians, authors, and members of our community who take the time today and every day to celebrate the joy of reading!” said NEA President Becky Pringle.
